Hampshire College Emergency Medical Technician

Code of Conduct

This document is intended to define and create guidelines for behavior appropriate to representatives of Hampshire College Emergency Medical Services. This contract is to be read and signed by each entering member of the program.
 
 
On Duty
  • HCEMTs must appear in uniform. This consists of HCEMT t-shirt, hat, jacket, jump pack, and radio or pager. HCEMTs must refrain from wearing clothing or footwear that would create a personal safety hazard or compromise one's ability to function effectively. HCEMTS must present themselves in a respectable and professional manner, inspiring the confidence and trust of the community and the patient.

  • HCEMTs may not ingest illegal drugs or alcohol of any quantity. HCEMTs must use discretion when attending functions where alcohol or drugs are being served, to prevent misunderstandings which would jeopardize the reputation of the HCEMT program.

  •  

     

  • HCEMTs must be fully capable, both physically and emotionally, to respond to a call. HCEMTs can not run with physical injuries, or while under academic or personal stress which would inhibit prompt or appropriate response.

  •  

     

    Off Duty
  • HCEMTs must meet the basic requirements of membership outlined in the HCEMS Handbook which includes maintaining certification and attending all meetings. HCEMTs must also abide by the Massachusetts State EMS Code of Conduct and state and federal law.

  •  

     

  • HCEMTs must present themselves in a respectable manner, and understand that they continue to represent the program even while off duty.

  •  

     

  • HCEMTs must exercise discretion and good judgment in the decision to ingest alcohol. Public intoxication can be detrimental to the reputation of the program. It is also inappropriate for any member to habitually use or abuse any intoxicating or mind-altering substance.

  •  

     

  • HCEMTs must adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality at all times. EMTs must refrain from disclosing any identifying information, and must limit their discussion of calls to other EMTs, Public Safety personnel, House Office staff, or HHS psychological staff.

  •
